Protests Will Not End
Presidential hopeful Mir-Hossein Mousavi’s wife Zahra Rahnavardsaid in a short interview yesterday with Ghalam News website that she had not been arrested and emphasized that she is by the people in their protests against the election results and will continue her protests in a peaceful manner and through legal channels.
Zahra Rahnavard condemned the widespread arrest of reformist political activists and called for the immediate release of all detainees.
In the interview, Mrs Rahnavard commented on the police and military's violent crackdown of people's peaceful protests in the past ten days, which left dozens of protesters dead and injured: "They must not treat dissatisfied people who have poured into the streets to demand their just rights as if the country is under martial law."
"Because of the duty I have toward the fate of my country and my nation, I will continue to be present in the field with determination, and while protesting the election results, I will carry out my duties, by the people's side, and through peaceful and civil means," Rahnavard declared.
At the end of the interview, Mir-Hossein Mousavi's wife commented on the recent rallies and the government's brutal crackdown, adding, "The regime must respect the people's right to protest, recognize the legal means of protest, protect the people's right to protest and refrain from any violence."
